Florida, founded and named by Ponce de Leon in 1513, is the second farthest southern state, with Hawaii being first. It is a peninsula, meaning that its sides are surrounded by water. Because of this, Florida is best known for its tropical beaches, hot weather, citrus fruit, and attractions. Florida has become one of the nation's top places to go for a vacation, and is the fourth most populous state.
